In a bid to tackle the growing issue of railway trespass among young people, Caledonian Sleeper and the Rail Safe Friendly programme are delivering a powerful, ongoing educational initiative designed to raise awareness, prevent injuries, and save lives across Britain’s railway network.
The Rail Safe Friendly programme enables schools and the rail industry to work together towards a shared goal: equipping children and young people with the knowledge they need to stay safe around railways. By providing free, high-quality safety resources and facilitating direct engagement with industry experts, the initiative helps embed life-saving messages into school communities nationwide.
In just TWO years with the Rail Safe Friendly programme, Caledonian Sleeper has reached an incredible 8,817 young people, with every sponsored school achieving BRONZE accreditation for their commitment to rail safety education. This partnership has generated over £250,000 in measurable social value, helping to build safer, more informed communities for the future.
As Caledonian Sleeper enters its third year with the Rail Safe Friendly programme, the organisation continues to expand its reach, with all Caledonian Sleeper’s sponsored schools working towards accreditation in recognition of their commitment to rail safety education. An achievement that underscores the impact of coordinated outreach and sustained partnership.
Caledonian Sleeper Head of Sales & Marketing, Steven Marshall said:
“We are delighted to support such an important initiative that engages young people about the railway and how to use it safely. We are incredibly thankful for the participation so far of the schools in some of the communities we serve and look forward to reaching more schools over the next 12 months including in Birmingham, our new calling point for 2026.
Stuart Heaton, Managing Director of Learn Live and Rail Safe Friendly commented:
“We are pleased that Caledonian Sleeper is a proud supporter of the Rail Safe Friendly programme.
It shows the collective commitment of the rail industry to making railway safety education accessible to young people across the country. With the support of organisations like this we can continue our mission to protect young people from the dangers of railway trespass.
With the ongoing support of Caledonian Sleeper and dedicated educators across the country, Rail Safe Friendly continues to grow delivering life-saving information directly into classrooms.”
