Faced with over 19,300 trespass incidents on the UK rail network in 2023/24 (Source: Network Rail), a wave of youthful creativity has risen to champion safety. The BackTrack Competition, challenging young people to craft impactful anti-trespass messages, proudly unveils its 2025 winners!
This year’s competition saw an explosion of talent, with primary (under 11) and secondary (11-18) students tackling the challenges of “Best Social Media Graphic” and “Best Media Entry” for a Rail Safety Week information broadcast. Judging was tough, with Rail Safe Friendly’s Emily Baxter joining the panel in Leeds to sift through the incredible entries. After careful deliberation, the winners emerged:
- Benji’s striking graphic captured attention, earning him the under 11 Best Social Media Graphic award.
- Klara’s compelling visual message secured the over 11 Best Social Media Graphic.
- The collective effort of Pupils from Langrish Primary School shone brightly, winning the under 11 Best Media.
- Emily, Maddison, Amelia, and Boeima from Hymers College delivered a powerful media piece, taking home the over 11 Best Media prize.
Ahead of Rail Safety Week, commencing June 16th, the winning entries, alongside a selection of nominees, will be featured in a special broadcast by Learn Live. Winners will also be rewarded with exciting prizes, including rail cards, digital drawing tablets, action cameras, and podcast recording equipment.
Entries for next year’s BackTrack Competition will be opening soon! Keep an eye on the Backtrack competition website for updates.
