Rail Safe Friendly Attends “The Greatest Gathering”

Rail Safe Friendly had the amazing opportunity to attend The Greatest Gathering—a landmark three-day festival honouring two centuries of British railway innovation, engineering excellence, and cultural heritage on Friday 1st August.

Organised by Alstom, this one-of-a-kind event has proudly earned its place in history as the world’s largest-ever collection of historic and modern rolling stock. With over 140 locomotives and railway vehicles showcased from various eras, the festival was nothing short of breathtaking for anyone passionate about the railways—past, present, and future.

Held as a central part of Railway 200, the year-long, nationwide celebration, The Greatest Gathering commemorates a pivotal moment in transportation history: the first passenger railway journey, which took place in 1825 with the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

For Rail Safe Friendly, it was a fantastic chance to connect with industry professionals, educators, families, and railway enthusiasts—all united in celebrating the legacy and future of the railways.

It was also great to meet up with some of our fantastic partners during the event—sharing ideas, celebrating achievements, and looking ahead to future collaborations. Being part of a community that values education, innovation, and safety in rail is what drives our mission forward.

This event reminded us why promoting rail safety and education is more important than ever. As the railway industry continues to evolve, so does our mission: to engage the next generation with the knowledge, tools, and respect they need to navigate and appreciate the world of rail.

We’re proud to have been part of this incredible moment in railway history—and we can’t wait to see where the tracks lead next.
